Tuesday
(Sorry all, with these old concrete and marble buildings, wifi isn't as available as I thought it'd be)
After a great breakfast, we set out to the countryside where Angeline's mom lives. But first we stopped by Sumaya's grandparents' house where she grew up. They also speak Urdu in addition to Tamil, so we were able to communicate a bit. Uncle Iqbaal was so cute; he had offered a certain "spicy snack" to another American recently and wanted to see how we liked it. He set out for the store on his scooter to get it for us! We had tea and biscuits and he returned with what looked like yellow corn chips and something Chris described as the Tamil pretzel. They were both good, but not spicy at all. Ever since we arrived here people worry that the food is too spicy for us - lol! I guess we've had good training from return visits and Punjab!
When we arrived at Angeline's mom's place, we were also greeted by her aunt Lily, her niece Poppy, Poppy's daughter Ria, and sisters Vasanthi, and Parvathy. They had a big garden with fruit and vegetable trees that we wouldn't find at home. We got to play with puppies, continue our Tamil lessons, eat lunch, take a looong nap, roam the neighborhood, and chat with the family.
Next stop: shopping! Again! This time Chris, Angeline, Sumaya, and Gabriel dropped us off with Job and Sandy to find us some clothes. He really wanted to gift us something (while he was in agony waiting for us to shop, typical guy...). It was nice to get to know Sandy a bit better.
We ended up at Job's sister Christina's house for dinner and chatting all night (only to 12:45am this time as a compromise) and we spent the night there. Job's niece Joanne is so cute and so smart, only 5 and a half years old. Her English is so good because Christina is an English professor. She even drew a picture of us!
We had fun talking with Christina and telling embarrassing stories about Job with her. He kept saying, "you're saying the wrong thing at the wrong place!" but she said, "no, keep talking!" Lol.
Tomorrow we're off to a dam with 8 other friends in a cooler climate and to try fresh fish!
